Why You Should Have a Destination Proposal

June 3, 2021

First of all, NO, proposing on your vacation or on a trip is not cliché. Your proposal should reflect your personality as a couple and if that means doing it during vacation, then go for it! While it’s always going to be in the back of her mind that you might propose there (mostly because all of her friends will be filling her head with the idea), there are still ways to completely knock her off her feet. Here are some reasons why we think you should:

  • You can get away from everyone else (aka the pressure). At this point, we can bet all of your friends and family have gotten into the habit of elbowing you every time they see you and giving you the old “so when ya gonna ask?” eyebrow wag. Going out of country means you can just worry about her, and not what everyone else is pressuring you to do. Focus completely on your girl and get the chance to wow her with a proposal she deserves.
  • You probably don’t have to set the mood. Vacations are meant for relaxing and romance. You won’t have to worry about keeping her attention or getting her mind off of whatever happened at work that day.
  • You can enjoy your first couple of days engaged alone and away from everyone. Once you get engaged, everything starts happening really fast. Family and friends will start asking questions about the wedding (where, when, how) and won’t rest until they have answers. You can use the rest of your vacation to relax and prepare some answers to the barrage of questions you know is awaiting you back home (and fully enjoy your first few days of being engaged!).
  • It’ll give you a great story. Instead of proposing somewhere “normal,” you can always remember that far-off, magical place you proposed at. (Plus, you have an excuse to go back.) All of your friends will be jealous of how picturesque your proposal was, and you’ll love telling the story over and over again (maybe you should hire a destination photographer to make sure you have those pictures!).

You might feel some pressure about proposing on your getaway but try not to stress. If you don’t feel like that is where you should propose, then don’t let anyone tell you otherwise! Go with what you think your soon-to-be-fiancée will love the most, or with what means the most to the both of you.
