Senior Picture Tips for Photos You’ll Love

April 13, 2022

Wow, time flies! You were just walking through the halls as a freshman and now you’re graduating! Senior pictures are unique, and customized to you. We will work together to choose locations, props, and other creative ideas to help your personality shine!

Here are a few tips to ensure we have an amazing senior session:

Communicate and Prepare: You’ll be receiving a questionnaire all about your style, hobbies, and all the things – Please Fill It Out! This will help me better understand you, and it’ll give you time to reflect on yourself as well. From that questionnaire we really start the planning process!

Props: Once we have the ideas flowing, start compiling a list of props to bring. In sports? Bring a ball or medals. Into music? I’ve had seniors bring entire drum sets. Super sentimental? Bring ‘Class of –‘ signs or your Kindergarten photo. Let your imagination take over!

Locations: We’re not going to choose your typical park setting. We don’t want the same background 20 other kids in your class have. This is a time to get creative as well! The question is, where do you like to spend time and how can we showcase it? It could be the track, stadium, gym, library, coffee shop, family land, the river spot you hang out at during the summer, where you go camping every year, etc. Or we can choose somewhere you’ve never been and we’ll go on the adventure together!

Wardrobe: This is a big topic, but I’ll hit the highlights:

  • Choose 3-4 outfits that range from casual to fancy! We want a variety of colors, textures, and moods.
  • Avoid big logos or writing on your clothing, unless it’s a school hoodie or something you want to showcase.
  • I love flowy dresses or skirts on senior girls! Especially if we have a windy day, there is magic in movement!
  • Plan the outfit in it’s entirety – that means shoes, jewelry, hair – really think over that complete look and make sure all of it gets packed for the day of!
  • Try everything on before the big day. How do you feel? If the answer isn’t “I absolutely love this and it feels like me!” then it’s the wrong choice.
  • I’m not going to give you a color scheme… Be bold and bright, be earthy and hippie, be neutral and stoic – it’s all about you!
  • Guys, if you have no idea, ask your mama!

Posing: Don’t worry, I’ve got you! I spend a lot of time talking, getting to know you, and making you feel comfortable in front of the camera. I give tons of prompts (walk towards me, spin, jump, all the things to get you laughing). When I do set you into a pose, I always follow up with some bad jokes or a funny story so you naturally melt into it – no stiff poses here!

Have Fun: Do you know what I’m going to say? THIS IS TO SHOWCASE YOU! Have fun, be silly, make memories, and celebrate this huge milestone in your life 🙂
